Marauders Take 15th at NCAA Central Region Meet

NCAA CENTRAL REGION RESULTS

Joplin, MO – The University of Mary men's cross country team completed the 2012 season with a 15th place finish at the NCAA Division II Central Regional. Jesse Bennett led the Marauders effort, placing 33rd overall.
 
The Marauders posted a team score of 340 to finish 15th out of 23 teams. Augustana claimed the team title with 31 points, followed by Missouri Southern, Minnesota State University, Southwest Baptist and Fort Hays State. The top four teams advanced to the NCAA championships.
 
Bennett covered the 10,000 meter course on the campus of Missouri Southern State University in a time of 31:16.3. The junior from Kalispell, MT, fell just three places short of earning all-region honors.
 
Shaun Henderson claimed 46th overall in a time of 31:36.6. Taylor Thompson came in 73rd at 32:14.0. Chris Jessop placed 83rd in 32.31.9 and Alex Huizenga completed the Marauders team scoring when he finished 116th in 33:30.7.
 
A young squad, Bennett, Henderson and Thompson are juniors, Huizenga is a sophomore and Jessop is a freshman.
 
Two other freshman also ran for the Marauders. Carter Montgomery (33:49.3) claimed 125th and Bridger Belzer (35:50.8) was 153rd.
 
163 runners and 23 schools competed in the Central Region meet.
