The first University of Mary football player to earn NCAA All-American honors, Tyler Steffan was a devastating weapon at wide receiver for the Marauders, using his size, speed and athleticism to make big plays all over the field.
 
The native of Dickinson, ND, arrived at UMary in the fall of 2008 and a two-sport athlete who also played baseball for the Marauders. Steffan made a quick impact on the Marauders football team as a redshirt freshman in 2009 and was firmly entrenched as a starter as a sophomore, catching 43 passes for 660 yards and four touchdowns. His breakout season came in 2011 when the 6-foot-4 220-pound junior caught 17 touchdown passes to lead the nation and earn AFCA 1st team All-American honors. Steffan caught 54 passes for 914 yards. His first two touchdowns came in a win at Chadron State to open the season. During one four-game stretch he caught four touchdowns in two games and three touchdowns in the other two. Steffan caught another 49 passes for 644 yards and seven TDs as a senior.
 
Steffan ranks second all-time at UMary in touchdown catches (30) and fourth in receiving yards (2,494) and catches (162). The All-American also earned all-region honors (1st team 2011), twice earned All-Northern Sun honors (2011 1st team, 2012 honorable mention) and was a 2-time NSIC player of the week. He among the Marauders baseball career leaders in doubles, runs scored and stolen bases.  
 
The son of Kyle and Deb Steffan, the 6-time Northern Sun All-Academic team member (including baseball and football) earned a Business Administration degree from the University of Mary in 2012 and his MBA in 2014. He works for Border State in the PVF/Oil & Gas Division as an Inside Sales Account Manager. Tyler and his wife Claycee are the parents of Crosby, Kyrie and Kolby.
