Tracy Porter’s basketball career at U-Mary and in the region is legend. An outstanding high school athlete, he led the Mandan Braves to a state championship.
As a freshman, Tracy was a member of the 1981-’82 Marauders — the first North Dakota team in 20 years to play in the NAIA national tournament. While at U-Mary, Tracy was a leader on a team that won a total of 101 games. He still ranks No. 12 on the all-time scoring list with 1006 points. Exemplifying team spirit, Tracy is also No. 1 on the all-time assist leaders list, with 489 assists.
The Marauders were not in a conference and played an independent schedule, but Tracy was one of the top guards in NAIA District 12, which included all of ND, SD and Montana, according to his coach, Al Bortke.
Tracy has served as business manager of the Mandan Public Schools for some time and worked at NISC for 12 years. He and his wife, Jane, live in Mandan, ND, with their children, Jacey and Erik.
