Langford High School in South Dakota gave the University of Mary one of their most successful graduates in Renae Amundson. Ranked as one of the top high school athletes in her region, she quickly became a top recruit for the University in both basketball and track in 1986. In her first two years, it was obvious Amundson was to make a tremendous impact. An unselfish player, she handed out countless assists that allowed her teammates great scoring possibilities and ranked her second in all-time assist leaders with 438 (over 100 per season). Also a top rebounder, she now ranks 13th on the all-time rebounding leaders with 418. Amundson is also fourth in all-time scoring with 1180. (Ahead of Amundson are Marauder Hall of Fame members Betsy Emerson with 1798, Dawn Schaeffer-Seiler with 1748, and Patti Mercer-Jordre with 1707.)

Amundson’s talent was reflected in her leadership. During her last two seasons, she and her teams fought for .500 seasons. Amundson’s efforts brought All-Conference recognition both her junior and senior years. The end of one athletic season meant the beginning of another for Amundson. She left the court for the track and once out of the blocks, twice participated in the NAIA National Track Meet in both hurdles and relays.
