A two-sport star, Pattie Mercer found impressive success on both the basketball and volleyball court during her tenure at the University of Mary from 1983-87. A two-time All-American, she became the first UMary women’s basketball player to earn the impressive honor when she was cited for the first time in 1985-86 before earning honorable mention recognition as a senior in 1986-87. Her efforts helped the Marauders win a WACND title in 1985-86 as the team posted a record of 20-8. Still the Marauders all-time leading rebounder with 1,216, she is fifth in scoring with 1,707 points. Her 38 points against Dickinson State during the 1985-86 season was a then-school record and her 18 field goals in the contest is still the standard. Her 24 rebounds during a game against DSU in 1984-85 remains a school record. Mercer was a member of the Marauders first volleyball team and helped the program increase from three wins their first season to 15 just two years later. Mercer also earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.
