One of the top distance runners in University of Mary history, Laurie Fox Batchelor is a six-time NAIA All-American, including three times in cross country while helping the Marauders achieve a pair of top-eight national finishes.
The two-time high school state champion from Jamestown, ND, arrived on campus in the fall of 1995 and immediately impacted the Marauders, winning the North Dakota College Athletic Conference (NDCAC) and NAIA regional cross country individual titles. After missing the 1996 season Fox Batchelor was even more impressive in 1997. She was again the NDCAC and regional cross country champion and earned All-American honors for the first time. Her efforts led the Marauders to the first of three straight conference titles and 11th place at nationals. Fox Bachelor again earned All-American status her junior year to lift the Marauders to a 4th place finish at the national championships, UMary’s best mark in the NAIA. In her final season as a harrier in 1999, Fox Batchelor was the NDCAC Most Valuable Graduating Senior and placed 11th at the NAIA championships to claim All-American honors for the third time. Her work led the Marauders to their third-straight regional title and an 8th place finish at nationals. She was the UMary cross country most valuable performer four times and was a two-time team captain.
In addition to her cross country exploits Fox Batchelor was a three-time NAIA indoor track All-American, twice in the distance medley relay and once in the 1500 meter run. She is a member of UMary’s 1998 Women’s Track & Field team previously enshrined in the Marauders Hall of Fame.
