Originally from Louisiana, Kerry Boumans came to wrestle for the University of Mary in the fall of 1989. Kerry enjoyed a great deal of success as a Marauder.
Kerry wrestled at 118 pounds for the Marauders as a freshman. That year he won the conference and regional championships and placed third at the national meet. The following year Kerry transferred to the University of Southwest Louisiana and stayed for a semester before returning to the University of Mary. Kerry re-joined the wrestling program at 125 pounds and again found success at both the conference and regional meets. That year he placed seventh at nationals. Kerry’s third season of wrestling, again at 125lbs, saw him become a national champion. He was the first of many national champions at the University of Mary. In his final season as a wrestler (125lbs) he successfully defended his national championship and became the first repeat national champion from the university.
Kerry is still enjoying success as a wrestler. He trains at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO and was the 2000 U.S. Open runner-up. He and his wife, Terri, have a son, Jacob.
