Katey (Aston) Viergutz earned her place in the Hall of Fame for her outstanding skills and contributions in not one, but two U-Mary sports. A brilliant volleyball player, she also helped lead the Marauders softball team to four successful seasons and was recognized for her individual performance in both arenas. In volleyball, under Coach Heidi Sunderland, setter Katey was named First Team All Conference in DAC-10 and Second Team All Region III in 1998. In 1999, she was the Marauders’ Most Valuable Player and received the Believer Award. She also was named NAIA Academic All American. In softball, playing center field under Coach Brad Walsh, she helped lead the Marauders to four DAC-10 Conference titles, four Region III titles, and participated in four straight NAIA National Championships. She was named to the DAC-10 All Conference Team four consecutive years, was DAC-10 Conference Player of the Year twice, and was tapped for the All Region III team all four of her eligible years. She also was named to the First Team NAIA All American.
Off the field, Katey studied in France while at U-Mary and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and computer information systems. The daughter of Tim and Jayne Aston of Missoula, MT, she is married to Jason Viergutz. The couple lives in Lincoln, NB, where she does research and marketing for Viergutz International.
