A tremendous talent with the ability to both score and find the opening teammate, McLaughlin, SD, native Eugene “Hank” Taken Alive played a pair of seasons for the University of Mary, including perhaps the most memorable. A starter in the backcourt for a Marauders squad that went a school-record 30-3 and made the NAIA Division I national tournament in 1981-82, Taken Alive averaged nearly 10 points a game and over five assists a contest. Taken Alive would help the Marauders to a mark of 25-9 in 1982-83. In two seasons he distributed 246 assists, tenth all-time at UMary. His total of 166 in 1981-82 is the program’s fifth-best single season total.
