Dave Alverson’s success at Bismarck State College made him one of the most sought-after junior college basketball recruits in the Midwest.  The Bismarck native continued his winning ways at U-Mary, leading the Marauders to 23 victories — 85 percent of their games — in both the 1985-1986 and 1986-1987 seasons, for a total of 46 wins in two years. His great outside shooting abilities and leadership earned him a strong area following and were instrumental in the team’s success.

Having played only two seasons, Dave is the 15th highest scorer in U-Mary history with 947 points. He is also among the university’s all-time top 20 in single-season scoring and 17th in rebounding. He ranks No. 3 all-time in 3-point shooting with 134 3-point shots and No. 1 all-time in single-season 3-point shooting. Although U-Mary’s independent status in the NAIA made Dave ineligible for conference awards, Athletic Director and former Head Men’s Basketball Coach Al Bortke says Dave was  “one of the most outstanding players in NAIA District 12.” The son of John and Mary Ann Alverson, Dave majored in business administration.

He and his wife, Kara, and children Dakota and “Jack” live in Fort Wayne, IN, where Dave owns The Donald Ross Golf Club.
