Bruce Ashworth, the son of Bob and Ruth Ashworth, enrolled at Mary College (as it was then called) in the fall of 1974 after being heavily recruited from a very successful junior college program at Waukesha Tech in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Coach Wally Weise also sent along a teammate of Bruce’s – Rod Hubka. Fans became very excited during the Marauder’s 1974-75 season as they posted a 23-4 record playing as an independent institution. Bruce and his teammates were the first in Marauder history to win more than 20 games in a season and they set the precedent for many other teams. During the 1974-75 season, Bruce Ashworth and his teammates posted 15 straight wins. That 1975-76 basketball team was ranked 11th nationally in team scoring average 96.8 points per game in 18 NAIA games. In his second season as a Marauder, Bruce led the team to a 19-10 record, and 42-14 in two seasons. As a junior college transfer, Bruce played only two seasons with the Marauders at a time when there was no three-point shot. Bruce is still ninth on the Marauder All Time-Scoring Leaders with 1136 points. Bruce is also fifth among All Time Single Season Scoring with 623 points in the 1975-76 season. He also holds the 12th position on the All Time Assist Leaders with 218. Today, Bruce and his wife Barbara live in East Troy, Wisconsin. They have two sons, Jamie, 22, and Jerad, 18. Bruce owns and operates a sports apparel business called “Pro Team Apparel.”
