Brock Thompson
Outstanding Athlete
Men’s Soccer 1995-1998
As team captain of the University of Mary’s first men’s soccer team, it is appropriate that Brock is the first men’s soccer player to be inducted into the Marauder s Hall of Fame. A four-year stalwart on the Marauders defense, Thompson remains among the school leaders in games played.
A native of Blair, NE, Brock joined the newly formed Marauders program under the direction of Dave Ripley and was named the team captain as a freshman in 1995. U-Mary finished its inaugural season 10-4-1. Receiving NAIA honorable mention all-region recognition as a junior in 1997, Brock capped his career with first team NAIA All-Region III and honorable mention All-American recognition, as the Marauders finished 13-4-1 during his senior season of 1998. He was named the team’s most valuable player three times.
Brock started every match he played for the Marauders. His 65 starts rank fifth on the all-time list and his 65 games played stands 15th in school history.
After receiving his B.S. in biology education, Brock served as an assistant coach for the Marauders men’s team, then took over the U-Mary women’s program for three seasons. During his tenure as head coach from 2001-‘03, the Marauders earned two regional titles and twice advanced to the NAIA national tournament ,while compiling a record of 39-24-4. In 2002, he was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Midwest Senior College Coach of the Year, and in 2002 and 2003, he was named NAIA Region III Coach of the Year. His 2002 Marauders squad defeated Malone (OH) College in the first round of the NAIA national tournament.
After leaving U-Mary, Brock was the assistant coach at Indiana State University for a season before taking over the reins of the University of North Dakota women’s soccer program from 2005-‘07. Brock was named the North Central Conference Coach of the Year in 2005. The son of Pat and Lana Thompson of Blair, Brock is currently the assistant coach at South Dakota State University.
