After completing an outstanding high school football career in California, Bobby Wagner signed with Modesto Junior College, a member of the Central Valley Conference in his home state of California. After completing another two years of outstanding football performance, Bobby enrolled at the University of Mary in 1992. This running back immediately gave the Marauder offense a tremendous surge and a constant threat to score. In 1992, Bobby led the Marauders to a 7-1-1 record, a Co-Conference Championship, and a NAIA playoff spot. The next season, 1993, brought another winning record of 8-3. 1993 also saw the Marauders win their first round game of the NAIA playoffs to advance to the quarter-final round. Bobby Wagner still holds many records in the Marauders All-Time book. In the single season leaders’ category, Bobby is ranked #1 in rushing during the 1993 season with 1,752 yards after running for 1,112 in 1992. He set the scoring record by attaining 92 points. During the 1993 season, he broke his own record by scoring 148 points – 56 more points than 1992. In the category of leaders, Bobby is again #1 in rushing with 2,864 yards in only two seasons. He is also number one in scoring with 240 career points. He scored four touchdowns in a game against both Mayville State and Valley City State University in 1993 and scored 22 times in 1993 and 37 time in his career. Bobby also holds the record for the longest kick-off return, 99 yards against Western Montana during his senior year in 1993. He was twice named All-Conference and in 1993 was named to the NAIA All-American Second Team.
