Barb (Gelinski) Metcalf, a dual-sport standout from Wyndmere High School, chose to enroll at the University of Mary in the fall of 1987. She played for the Lady Marauders basketball program for three years under head coach Cal Collins and played her final season for head coach Roger Haug.
As a guard, Barb was known for being a coach on the floor. She was an aggressive and solid player with not only great scoring abilities but also super passing skills. At one point in Lady Marauders basketball history, Barb was ranked 11th among all-time leading scorers. Her passing abilities placed her seventh on the all-time assist list with 230. During her basketball career, Barb was involved in some unbelievable games, such as her team scoring 63 points in one half, an all-time record at the University of Mary. On the defensive end of her game, her team set another record by allowing only 24 points in a game.
Barb also participated in the Marauders track and field program. Along with her teammates Ellen Behrends, Holly Voight and Tammy Mudder, Barb was a member of the Marauders record-holding indoor 2x240 relay team.
