One of the most dynamic and decorated players in the history of University of Mary men’s basketball, Anthony Moody sparked a resurgence in the program that led the Marauders to their best NCAA season.
A native of Appleton, WI, Moody came to Bismarck, ND, by way of Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, ND, after he was recruited by first-year UMary Head Coach Randall Herbst. The new partnership led the Marauders to 15 victories in 2009-10 and the first winning record of the NCAA era for the UMary men’s basketball program. After averaging 18.3 points per game and 3.7 assists per game – both team highs – Moody was named the Northern Sun Newcomer of the Year and earned All-NSIC 1st team honors and Daktronics and NABC All-Region 2nd team recognition as a guard.
Moody and the Marauders made an even bigger jump in year two. The 2010-11 NSIC Player of the Year led the Marauders to a final record of 23-6 overall and 18-4 in conference play to finish second in the league. Ranked as high as 14th in the nation, the Marauders 16-game winning streak carried UMary to the NSIC semifinals for the first time. The Marauders also made their first and only trip to the NCAA tournament. After averaging 21.1 points per game, 5.4 rebounds per game and 4.3 assists per game, Moody was named to four All-American teams; NABC State Farm, Daktronics (2nd team), Basketball Times (2nd) and Division II Bulletin (3rd). The Daktronics Regional Player of the Year, Moody also earned 1st team All-NSIC and 1st team Daktronics and NABC All-Region honors.
A 2011 graduate of the University of Mary with a Bachelor’s degree in University Studies, Moody was selected to play in the Reese’s Division II All-Star Game. He was drafted into the NBA’s D-League by the Sioux Falls Sky Force in the 5th round (60th overall).
