Annie Goodson-Roe
Outstanding Athlete
Track & Field 1998-2002

A native of Harrison, ID, Annie Goodson-Roe was a highly recruited athlete out of Kootenai High School who signed a letter of intent for Coach Mike Thorson and enrolled at the University of Mary in the fall of 1998. The daughter of Bob and Sue Goodson, Annie stated she chose to attend U-Mary because academics and track were focal points in her life. She certainly proved her values as she attained a 4.0 cumulative grade point average while majoring in biology, became a two-time scholar All-American, and accomplished greatness in the Marauder Track and Field program.

Annie made an immediate impact as she led the Marauders to conference, regional, and national recognition. A major factor in the Marauders winning eight conference titles, Annie set three school records: indoor 4x400 relay, outdoor 4x400 relay and 200 meter at 24.77. She was also named an NAIA All-American 15 times and was a two-time national champion. In her four years as a Marauder, Annie won 16 individual conference events. Annie was named the Most Valuable Graduating Senior of the DAC-10 Conference for both the indoor and outdoor seasons of 2002. The Bismarck Quarterback Club College Female Athlete of the Year in 2002, Annie was also honored by her coaches and teammates as the Lady Marauder Most Valuable Player in both her junior and senior years.

At the NAIA National Championships in Olathe, KS, the Sports Extra of the Olathe Daily News on May 25, 2002, stated: “The University of Mary senior, Annie Goodson, needed a big finish to capture her heptathlon title. Goodson entered the event tied but beat her competitor in the 800m, running away winning by five seconds.”

While her accomplishments in academics and track and field were extraordinary, her most outstanding qualities are her character and the values she possesses; she is a truly humble person who has always kept the hype, glory, and accolades in the proper prospective.
Annie and her husband, Brad, live in Idaho, where she is an instructor in nutrition at the University of Idaho in Moscow. She is also the registered dietitian for Washington State University Dining Services.
