The 1976–1977 and 1977–1978 University of Mary men’s basketball teams produced two of the greatest consecutive seasons in Marauders history. Under the direction of Head Coach Al Bortke and Assistant Coach Dave Godfread, the two squads combined for 27 straight home wins to turn the McDowell Activity Center into the “Death Dome.”

One of the highest-scoring teams in the nation, the 1976–1977 Marauders were a perfect 18-0 at home and posted at least 100 points in 14 games on their way to a record of 25-6. The team averaged 92.9 points per game against four-year schools.

U-Mary would roll to a 23-4 mark in 1977–1978 that included a 16-game win streak and a 15-4 record on the road, one of the best in school history. Another explosive team offensively that averaged over 88 points per game, the Marauders won all nine home games and didn’t lose to a team from North Dakota or Montana.
